Fraxel is a relatively new aesthetic medicine technique, harnessing the body’s own restorative processes by inflicting controlled damage to the skin which leads to new collagen formation. Fraxel may be used for areas of increased pigmentation, sun damage, acne scars, and wrinkles. During the treatment an anaesthetic cream is applied to reduce any discomfort. After the treatment the skin will appear red and may be uncomfortable for several days. The old skin cells will slough off leaving the newly rejuvenated skin below. Initially the skin will be prone to sun damage, so wearing a high sun protection factor cream is essential.
