Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler that was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in 2006. The main component is hyaluronic acid which volumises, softens, and hydrates skin.

The main areas amenable to dermal fillers are:

  • nasolabial folds (the lines between the nose and mouth)
  • marionette lines (the lines between the mouth and jaw)
  • tear troughs
  • glabellar frown lines (the vertical lines inbetween the eyes)
  • lips (to enhance thin and shrunken lips)
  • cheeks (to plump out hollow or sagging cheeks)
  • nasal deformities (to fill a defect on bridge of the nose)

The procedure only takes a matter of minutes. A thin needle is used to inject small volumes of the filler into the specific area. There is minimal bleeding, and mild discomfort during the procedure. Afterwards there may be some very mild bruising, but almost all normal activities may be immediately resumed, so there is virtually no down time.
