Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure where the outermost surface of the skin (stratum corneum) is partially or completely removed by light (mechanical) abrasion. The aim is to to remove sun-damaged skin and remove or lessen raised scars and areas of increased pigmentation. Microdermabrasion has also been used in the treatment of acne and particularly for the resurfacing of acne scars.

Microdermabrasion can be performed by a health care professional and usually a course of three to six is required to obtain optimal results. It is not a very painful procedure and no anesthetic is required.

Microdermabrasion is performed by passing a hand held device over the skin. Tiny crystals hit the skin surface and are immediately vacuumed away taking with them the outermost skin surface which is made up of dead cells. Your skin will immediately have an improved tone and texture leaving it feeling smooth and looking luminous. Also the underlying epidermis is stimulated to produce collagen which helps slow the ageing process.
